Dusty's Big Dog Challenge

Posted Date: 02/18/26 (12:15 PM)

Dusty's Big Dog Challenge
All Ottumwa Schools students and their families are invited to participate in Dusty’s Big Dog Challenge, a districtwide initiative supporting Heartland Humane Society. Through donated food, supplies, spare change, and plenty of Bulldog spirit, our school community will come together to help animals in need.

Our goal is ambitious; we aim to collect enough food and essential supplies to support Heartland Humane Society for an entire year. This initiative provides a meaningful opportunity for students and families to show compassion, build community, and make a lasting impact right here at home.

Additionally, from now through March 30, 2026, Superintendent McGrory, Warehouse BBQ, Floor to Ceiling, Anthony Christner/Christner Contracting, Pierce Fencing, The Legacy Foundation, and additional sponsors will cover adoption fees through Heartland Humane Society. This support will help more dogs find their forever homes and give more “Dusty stories” the chance to begin.

Together, let’s show our Bulldog pride while supporting a great cause.

Dusty's Story

This is Dusty.

Dusty was more than Mr. McGrory’s dog; he was a reminder of the power of second chances. Found as a puppy in Ottumwa, Dusty came into the McGrory family as a rescue and, with patience and love, became a beloved family favorite (and a legendary sandwich thief). Dusty lived 17 wonderful years showing what happens when a community chooses compassion.

In Dusty’s honor, and as part of the challenge, Superintendent McGrory, Warehouse BBQ, Floor to Ceiling, Anthony Christner/Christner Contracting, Pierce Fencing, Legacy Foundation, and additional sponsors will cover adoption fees through Heartland Humane Society, helping more dogs find their forever homes and giving more “Dusty stories” a chance to begin.
