Message from the Principal

Dawn S. Principal

Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome to another school year!  We are so glad to have you and your family as a part of the Eisenhower family. I love serving the families of Eisenhower.  I have also served the families of Liberty Elementary, James Elementary and Pickwick Elementary since arriving in Ottumwa in 2008.  Before Ottumwa, I was a principal in Eagle Grove, Iowa and a teacher in three Iowa communities:  Bennett, Humeston, and Leon. 2021-22 marked my 30th year as a public educator in Iowa. I am originally from Davenport where my mother, brother, nephews and niece reside.

Eisenhower Elementary offers grades kindergarten through fifth grade with two sections of each of the grades. Student learning and safety are our priorities. You can help by checking your child’s backpack each day for notes and homework.  We do our best to communicate regularly with Remind messages, newsletters, OCSD website, texts, and emails as we want you to be well informed. You are also welcome to call 641-684-5617 with any questions.

Our building is open to parents and visitors. Door Number 1, located on the northwest corner of the building near the outdoor learning center, has a doorbell entry system.  If you need your child to leave during the school day, you are welcome to call the office. We will then phone the classroom and have the child come to the office to meet you.

I invite you to read through the student handbook, which you can find here on the website. It may answer many questions you have about school and Eisenhower.

On behalf of our staff, we appreciate you being an active part of your child’s educational journey.  We look forward to a great partnership.  It is a pleasure to serve you and your family.

Sincerely,
Dawn Sievertsen
